4-H LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS PROJECT

(Division 6041)

Requires Arts/Miscellaneous Record book.

· See General Rules applying to all 4H exhibitors and general rules applying to all 4H exhibits other than livestock.

· Exhibits must correspond to any project or activity from the Leadership (4H Step Up to Leadership and Unlock Your Leadership Potential) and/or Communications (4H Building Bridges) project books.

· Only pages relevant to project are needed. Additional pages are allowed but will not be considered by the judges.

· The 4H ID CARD (4LO-11SO) should be securely attached to the outside lower right corner of the outside cover. Inside, clearly indicate the pages that are to be judged. If the pages to be judged are not clearly marked then the last 2-4 pages of the book will be reviewed.

· This is NOT a general scrapbooking category. The scrapbook format is a method of recording the Leadership and/or Communications experiences of youth who participate in these project areas. Projects must demonstrate a clear correspondence to a Leadership or Communications activity.

· All pages should be identified with name, county, lot and class. Pages should be in plastic sheet protectors.

· One exhibit per 4Her in communication and one exhibit for leadership.

· Club is limited to one entry in the Club Scrapbook division.

· Exhibit must be in an 8 1/2″ X 11″ or 12″ X 12″ notebook or scrapbook format. Format will allow a Leadership or Communication Portfolio to be developed and kept over multiple years.

· Refer to the class entry to determine the required number of pages.

· Photos should clearly address the theme or activity corresponding to the selected leadership project or communication project. Every photo should be explained with journaling captions. One or two paragraphs of narrative explaining the project or activity should be included on the scrapbook pages. Clearly indicate pages to be judged. Additional pages beyond those required by the project will not be reviewed.

· Project should contain the following:

1. 2 or more photos on each page

2. each photo should be explained with captions

3. 1-2 paragraphs of narrative on one of the pages

4. No additional pages of narrative are needed

· Photos can be taken by the 4-Her or another person. The pictures should clearly address the Leadership or Communication project that is selected. Pictures may be cropped as desired.

· Pages will be scored on: organization of project (easy to follow and relevant to a Leadership and/or Communications Project), neatness, narrative content, caption content, photo content, and overall effectiveness of the project.

925 Junior Communication Scrapbook Display: 2 page display of work completed by junior level member based on an activity, program or project from the 4-H Communications Curriculum.

926 Senior Communication Scrapbook Display: 4 page display of work completed by junior level member based on an activity, program or project from the 4- Communications Curriculum.

927 9 year old: 2 pages based on an activity, program or project from the 4- Communications Curriculum.

928 10 year old: 2 pages based on an activity, program or project from the 4- Communications Curriculum.

929 11 year old: 2 pages based on an activity, program or project from the 4-H Communications Curriculum.

930 12 year old: 2 pages based on an activity, program or project from the 4-H Communications Curriculum.

931 13 year old: 2 pages based on an activity, program or project from the 4-H Communications Curriculum.

Senior Level

932 14 year old: 4 pages based on an activity, program or project from the 4-H Communications Curriculum.

RULES FOR DOG SHOW

1. Open to 4-H youth enrolled in Kenton County by April 1, 2009.

2. 4-H members must submit a record book by July 13, 2009 to the 4-H Office.

3. All dogs must be on a leash or harness. NO EXCEPTIONS!

4. Current (within 150 days) Health Certificate required at time of entry.

5. Limit of one entry per class.

· Exhibitor must be less than 9 years old as of Jan 1 of current year.

· Exhibitor must be registered as Kenton Co. 4H Cloverbud at Extension Office by April 1 of current year.

· Record books are not required for Cloverbud classes

4-H MISCELLANEOUS CATEGORY PROJECTS (county only)

· Requires Arts/Miscellaneous Record Book.

· There is a limit of one entry per class. (Each number is a class.)

Entries must meet the following guidelines. These categories are subject to change each year.

4M1 Collection of Items-Labeled and list the collection parts on a piece of paper or index card. Tell what makes this collection special.

4M2 Models-Models can be snap together or glued together. They may be made of wood or plastic.

4M3 Popsicle Stick Craft-Any one item made mostly of craft sticks. The item can be natural, made of colored sticks or painted.

4M4 Recycled Craft-Any item made of recycled materials.

4M5 Plastic Craft-Any item made from plastic.

4M6 Jewelry-Any handcrafted earrings, necklace, bracelet or set.

4M7 Metal Craft-Any item made of metal.

4M8 Save Our Environment-Poster, report or display depicting an environmental theme.

4M10 Babysitting, Poster-Show any child care or safety tip related to babysitting.

4M11 Model Rockets

4M12 Holiday Craft-Any item with a holiday theme.

4M13 Scrapbook or Mini-Society Journal-A scrapbook should be on acid-free, lignin-free paper with photo safe adhesives. White glue and scotch tape are not acceptable. The Mini-Society Journal is completed during a 4-H Mini-Society program.

4M14 Machine Stitched and Stuffed Item-Any 3-D item which contains fiber-fil.

4M15 Machine Stitched Bag without Fasteners-A tote bag lacking buttons, zippers, Velcro or drawstring.

4M16 Machine stitched bag with at least one fastener, such as drawstring, button, zipper or Velcro.

4M17 Machine Stitched Holiday Item-Any item created on a sewing machine with a holiday

4M18 Machine Quilted Item-Any item pieced or quilted by machine.

4M19 Hand-stitched Item-Any item constructed with hand stitching.

4M20 Machine Applique-Any item with an applique stitched by machine.

4M21 Folk Art, may include tin punch, candles or handmade heritage toys.

4M22 Nature Craft, any item made of natural materials, except wreaths

4M23 Bead Craft-Any item constructed of beads.

4M24 Paper Craft-This can include making paper, marbleizing paper, or origami.

4M25 Ribbon Craft-Any item made predominantly with ribbon.

4M26 Print Making-This can include any type of printing sponge, block,etc.

4M27 Hand-crafted Soap-Three bars or three pieces of decorative soap that have been hand poured or molded. Soap must be wrapped in see-through material.

4M28 Small Engines-Poster, report or display related to small engines.

4M29 Decorated Tee Shirt-Any of the following techniques may be used: tie dye, paint, appliqué, beading.

4M30 Simple cloth item with no machine stitching-Example: Knotted fleece blanket
